The East Carolina Amateur Baseball League has a new website and will try to communicate with players and the community better than in the past.

The new website can be found at www.ecabl.net and will be updated more frequently with game summaries, league information, game schedule updates, league documents, polls, team pages and more. The website is starting out simple and will expand to meet the needs of the players and the league.

The ECABL will try to cross-publicize information better using the website and Facebook. This will be a gradual process and we invite players or anyone interested in the league to give us their opinions.

The East Carolina Amateur Baseball League schedule of games has been posted on this website.

Opening Day is March 24. The defending-champion Orioles will host the Yankees at 1 p.m. at Kafer Park to kick off the new season. The Braves will host the Red Sox at 4 p.m. and the Pirates will host the Cubs at 7 p.m.

Each team will play 15 games during the regular season and will play each team three times. Games will be held on Sundays at Kafer Park at 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Each game will last seven innings unless there is a tie. Tie games will go to extra innings. Standard extra-inning rules apply and the game will be played until there is a winner or until the the league time limit has been reached.

Rain outs will be played the Wednesday following the rain out at 7 p.m. at either Kafer Park or Creekside Park. Which teams will play at which parks will be determined by the league immediately following the rain out.

No games will be held Easter Sunday, Mother's Day or Memorial Day. Games will be played on Father's Day because we want to play baseball and should be allowed to do whatever we want on that day. In fact, wives, girl friends and children should be required to attend these games and cheer us on. But rather than require it, we are only suggesting it strongly and will make a list of those who fail to attend, so that we can use that as a "get-out-of-jail-free" card when we forget a birthday or anniversary.

A post-season tournament is expected to begin July 28. The ECABL championship game will be held Aug. 4. The dates of the post season could be affected by rain outs that extend the regular season or weather conditions when the post season begins. The official post-season schedule will be announced as the season concludes.

Team schedules for the upcoming 2019 East Carolina Amateur Baseball League will be posted on this website prior to the March 24 opening day.

The schedule was approved by the league board on Monday. The six-team league will begin play Sunday, March 24. Each team will play 15 games and will play each team three times. Games will be held at 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Kafer Park.

Adults wanting to play in the 2019 season of the East Carolina Amateur Baseball League should attend the registration and draft at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16 at Kafer Park.

The opener for the 2019 East Carolina Amateur Baseball League season will be Sunday, March 24, the ECABL board announced.

Officials are anticipating an eight-team league. The number of teams will be finalized after a registration event that is planned for Saturday, Feb. 16. at 10 a.m..

Each team will play 14 games and a post-season tournament. Games will be scheduled for Sundays, while Wednesdays are expected to be used for games postponed by weather.

A completed schedule will be released following the registration event.

Orioles defeat Yankees 9 to 4 Sunday night at Kafer Park to win 3rd consecutive league championship.

Due to excessive rain the last few days the playing fields are unplayable. 

Games will be rescheduled ASAP.

MLB has revised rule for plays at the plate. This new rule called the Bochy Rule was introduce in 2014. Please see detail below.

• A runner may not run out of a direct line to the plate in order to initiate contact with the catcher, or any player, covering the plate. If he does, the umpire can call him out even if the player taking the throw loses possession of the ball.

• The catcher may not block the pathway of a runner attempting to score unless he has possession of the ball. If the catcher blocks the runner before he has the ball, the umpire may call the runner safe.

• All calls will be based on the umpire's judgment. The umpire will consider such factors as whether the runner made an effort to touch the plate and whether he lowered his shoulder or used his hands, elbows or arms when approaching the catcher.

• Runners are not required to slide, and catchers in possession of the ball are allowed to block the plate. However, runners who do slide and catchers who provide the runner with a lane will never be found in violation of the rule.

ECABL is planning to create an additional team, the Bears.

The roster will be comprised of new and recent players who have joined the league. 

It also will provide an opportunity for some interested players to play additional games, as long as the Bears' game does not conflict with the player's originally assigned team.

The Bears will fill in and play against the BY- Team schedule and play approximately seven games.

The cost is for existing players is a $20 jersey rental and $10 cap purchase. The league will rent jerseys to the players; they are expected to be returned at the end of the season.

All new players will pay $100,  7 games + jersey and cap.

All games tonight (May, 30) are postponed due to weather.  Heavy rains the last few days have made fields unplayable. The postponed games will be rescheduled. 

Seven players from the Eastern Carolina Amateur Baseball League competed in the 6th annual Beach Battle Classic, an adult baseball tournament in Myrtle Beach, S.C., during the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Kevin Van Zandt, JP Whitford, Rob Fravor, Alberto Sosa, John Peterson, Doug Amerson and Mark McKillop made the three-hour trek to Myrtle Beach and teamed up with local players and players from Charlotte and California.

Coached and sponsored by Peterson, the New Bern Bears won its first game on a walk-off homer by Robert Lauro of the Charlottle area. The Bears competed in the 35-and-older division and lost in the semi-finals.

This was the first sighting of an adult New Bern Bears baseball team in many years. The original Bears team was a semi-pro ball club in the 1930s, 40s and 50s. The New Bern High School team carries the Bears nickname, and now the newest ECABL team will don a Bears uniform and take the field June 17.

For Peterson and Amerson, it was their second tournament since joining the ECABL. The two Braves players competed in the Men's Senior Baseball League World Series following the 2017 season.

The ECABL will try to promote opportunities for tournaments on the website. Any player who knows of tournaments or is seeking players for tournaments should contact the league through this website to have the information posted.

The ECABL is pleased to announce the formation of its newest (8th) team the Bears.  The Bears name is a throw back to the semi -pro Bears of the 1930s.  Their season will commence on 17 June. The team will host all new players and others as we fill slots for their abbreviated season. 

As we all assumed heavy rain has made fields unplayable.

Still digesting exciting come back from Wednesday night the :Come Back Cubs" will be taking the field 

again Sunday 20 May  515 PM At Kafer Park against two time league champions  Orioles.  This game portends to be another thriller. Get your tickets early ..probably a sellout crowd

Behind 19 -6 in the 5th inning , Cubs bats came alive scoring 9 runs in the 5th inning. Young and old contributed to this thrilling victory for the Cubs winless on the season. Dave Schifano held the Braves scoring down pitching effectively for 5 innings.

The Braves were very sportsman like in their defeat. 

The ECABL Cubs were overwhelmed by league foe Red Sox 24 to 6 on Sunday.  Multiple walks and frequent fielding errors, by the Cubs ,contributed to this lop sided score. 

On the positive side there was no grumbling by Cubs, Players all had a good time and we proved that baseball games can be played on Mother's Day. 

Red Sox and Cubs will battle for the basement tomorrow at 515PM Kafer Park don't miss the action.

The Board of Directors of Swiss Bear Inc voted unanimously on Thursday April 19 to join with "Friends of Kafer Park" for the purpose improving and modernizing Historic Kafer Park.  Friends of Kafer Park is a fund raising arm of the ECABL and Swiss Bear will be the financial conduit from donors to construction. 

The newly formed Cardinals defeated the Cubs in an eight-inning battle, 6-3, at Kafer Park Saturday night.

The newly reconstituted Cubs, with only five players returning from 2017, showed significant promise in their inaugural game of the 2018 season. New pitchers, Lee Walter and Charlie Peel made the game close.

Heavy rains Saturday night made fields wet and muddy -  ergo unplayable for Sunday scheduled games. Games will be rescheduled.

Players, coaches and managers are getting in shape. They're throwing and taking batting practice to get ready for the first pitch this Sunday. The 2018 season kicks off with openers at Kafer Park and Creekside Park at 2 p.m.

Today is the March 15- as previously announced all league fees are due today.  

31 days until opening day.  from now to then all  league fees of $180.00 must be paid to team manger by 15 March.  Uniform jerseys must be ordered be sure to let manager know size and number.

Schedule will be published as soon as all team rosters are confirmed. 

The Cubs will conduct baseball practice starting at 4PM field #7 .

The Giants will conduct practice at 530 PM at field #7.

All of this is weather permitting. 

Havelock recreation Dept. must approve any activity on their fields before use. 

League will conduct general registration for new and returning players at New Sports Nation 2108 cherry Point Road. we will also conduct a clinic for hitting and pitching skills.

There is a facility use fee of $10.00 per player to be collected at the door.

New Procedure

There is a newly established procedure for any player wishing to change teams. The form is available on this site in the documents/forms section listed in the navigation bar to the left.  

Mike Pacacham (aka PacMan) will assume duties as manager of of the 2018 Red Sox. He will be assisted by Kirk Williams as his bench coach.  Mike and Kirk bring great enthusiasm and leadership to the game we wish them best success for 2018.

Soares will devote more time to the ever growing Commissioner duties. 

Curtis Hall former Red Sox 1st baseman has volunteered to manage the new Cardinal team. We will work to staff, equip and support Curtis as much as we can to be ready by opening day 8 April.

Now is a good time to hit sports consignment shops and get needed equipment foer next season. I have gotten some good deals at the shop in Greenville. google the one nearest you.

Entire league thanks Rachel and Lewis Price for operating  the ECABL booth at Mumfst 2017.

Recruiting numbers for new players for 2018 season exceeded 20 and fund raising exceeded $200.00. 

Many stopped by with most common remark being " I didn't know there was such a league for older men playing hard ball with wood bats." 

So pass the word - we will have 8 teams of more for 2018. - but to do so we need managers.

The ECABL leadership met for 5 hours on 7 Oct to review the 1017 season and make plans for 2018.

For2018 league will schedule 18 games per team plus playoffs

Opening day is 8 April .    Sunday PM remain primary time slot for games 

We will test using Saturdays for make up games.

As most of you may already know, ECABL will be operating a booth for New Bern's MumFest on October 14th and 15th. We would love to have some players volunteer to work the booth to give the visitors some information about the league and answer questions . All we ask is that you wear your jersey. We will have some information to give you ahead of time to answer some questions that may arise. You will also provided with drinks and snacks.

If you are unable to volunteer at the booth, but can still make it to MumFest, feel free to wear your jersey anyway. Your jersey is a great source of advertisement for the league and you are its best spokesperson. 

MumFest hours are: 10 am - 6:30 pm on Saturday and 10 am - 5pm on Sunday.

Saturday   The Yankees continue their offensive juggernaut sweeping the Cubs on Saturday 11 - 4 n the 1st game and 17-2 in the 2nd.. In the first game the offense was led by Joey Jackline's 3 home run performance followed by  a homer by Vincent Moinare. We Welcome Nate back as a manager only of the Cubs. Nate is a plank owner of ECABL and stand out pitcher for the Cubs in 2016 before leaving with arm problems 

Heavy rains all week were too much for the baseball fields to absorb.

Make up games schedule should be formed by managers coordinating  between themselves.

So far Kafer Park will not be suitable for baseball tomorrow.  No word on Havelock.  My experience is all fields are soaked and unavailable.

In rain shorten games the Red Sox held on to beat Cubs 7 to 3 in 7 and half innings due to heavy rain in the 8th. In Havelock the Braves and Nationals played to 8 to 8 tie due late inning down pour,

The League invites all members to an open forum where the "State of the League" will be presented and this will also provided members an opportunity to voice recommendations and grievances. 

With season more than half over here results for Sunday's action

 Yankees continue win streak over Red Sox with 10 to 4 victory.  The game was close through 6 inning before Yankees erupted for 6 runs in the final 2 frames in Havelock.

Cubs defeat Pirates 12 to 10 in thriller at Kafer. Mike Poff went the distance on the mound for the Cubs

Orioles overwhelm Braves 9 to 3 at Kafer.

Rain predicted for Saturday - depending on volume of water we have confirmed use of West Craven Field as a back up because it drains better than the rest .

ECABL games are postponed primarily due to weather. We have experienced a rash of postponements because heavy rain just before game day has not adequately drained.

Local parks and recreation departments make the call  on whether the field is suitable. The league will make every effort to make up games postponed. A tarp for the field is an absolute solution to weather.  Tarps cost money!!!

All games at Kafer Park and Havelock have been postponed due to unplayable field conditions. Unfortunately our fields do not drain well and any amount of rain does not drain.

WE NEED A TARP!!  A SPONSOR would be best to put their logo on top. 

Cubs and Braves postponed heavy rain in 2nd inning.

Red Sox hang on to beat Nationals 9-7 at rain soaked Creekside Park. The Commish went the distance for winners who have 3 wins on the record.

Yankees win 16-7 over Pirates Sunday at Kafer Park, Pirates held on to a 7-0 lead until 5th, when the Yankees scored 2 runs, providing wake up call which it did indeed do. Yankees hit 4 home runs in the 6th scoring 10 runs. Yankee power provided by Molinare,Troy and Joey Jackline who hit 2 homers one a Grand slam. Yankees remain undefeated in 2017.

This season the league will be divided into 2 divisions and 4 teams. There will be an under 30  division and over 30 year old. All  players in good standing are invited to play. To play please text Doug Amerson at 252 229 9059

Games will be rescheduled later in the season. 

Shower predicted for Saturday  evening and early Sunday morning. If it keeps to showers and no major accumulation of water we should play games as scheduled. 

This season we will have 4 teams 2 teams consisting players over 30 years old and 2 teams with player under 30 years old.  Each of the 7 league teams will nominate 8 players 4 for each division.

The over 30 game will be played at Kafer Park and the under 30 at Creekside. This is a pretext of how the league will evolve into age divisions over time.

Orioles get past the Pirates 8 - 1 in the opener at Kafer Park in the 2nd game the Red sox ran past the Braves in a thriller 10 -7.  Red Sox had the  green light on all afternoon running and playing small ball, Teddy Cardenas went the distance supported by error- less defense led by Mike Zeir.

The undefeated Yankees will travel to Havelock to play the Red Sox at 2 PM.

Orioles 20 Red Sox 8.  With the games tied 8 – 8 in the 7^th inning the Oriole bats erupted for 12 runs in the final 3 frames. Kevin Van Zandt went the distance for the O’s  while the Red Sox offense was led by speedy Mike Zier who went 3 for 3 with a double and triple. – Mike Soares Manager

Congratulations to the Yankees on the win. Your guys played hard and never gave up. However I can not except the terrible calls that constantly ruined our momentum yesterday. It is hard enough to beat any team 1 on 1 but when you have to beat two teams (the umpires)at a time,it is almost impossible to do. All games should be won or lost by the teams play,not by the umpires terrible calls. I have addressed this issues with the head of the umpires and it is going to be examined and hopefully taken care of. We pay a lot money for umpires and I think they should at least know the basic rules of the game. I should not have to show them the rules and even when they see their mistakes they will not change their calls.No games should have to be this way.

Cubs earn one run in the first inning and is then shut out the rest of the game.  Cubs were able to put base runners on, but unable to drive them in.  Nats' bats come alive during the latter part of the game and score 11 unanswered runs.  Final score, 11 to 1, Nats over Cubs by JackWu

Yankees won on walk off in the bottom of 9th by Jason Alvarado.Jacob Meetz pitched for the winners, Yankees down entire game by 3 but rallied in the 9th. We have great respect for the Orioles team says Yankee Manager Chris Griffin. " they played a Hell of a Game"

ECABL managers will meet 7 June at 6PM. Due to growing size,, location to be determined. 

Red Sox exploded for 8 runs in 1st inning  and held on  to win with 3 run homer by Shane King and the strong pitching of Teddy Cardenas. 

The 3 rain outs of 23 April will be played at  6PM at Creekside 17, 24,and 31 May. Check schedule for your team

Hi heat/hot weather means players should drink plenty of water or gatorade.  Bring your own fluid do not depend on others

Yankees win their debut in ECABL 16 to 3 over Nationals at KAfer while Red Sox humbled by Braves 19 to 7 at Havelock.  Games played in 90+ heat many players did not bring water or fluids which is not a recommended practice.. Bring liquid on HOT DAYS!!!

Unlike last year -- individual teams are responsible to conduct practice where ever and when possible.  Fields are difficult to get and the league does NOT have a budget to pay for field use.  Practice is a good and logical activity  but typically in the MSBL world not that common because it conflicts with job hours, family commitments etc.

Weather permitting the ECABL will resume action with the following schedule . in New Bern  Kafer Park 2 PM Nationals vs  vs Yankees  at5PM Pirates vs Orioles  and in Havelock Red Sox host the Braves 2 PM

Unfortunately I made the decision to postpone all games Sunday because  of the weather forecast and rain that was falling  at noon. The umpires require a 2 hours notice if we postpone -or else be penalized the full cost of the game. SO I did not want to gamble $390.00 of the leagues resources.

Status of new  7th team is 4 paid in full 5 on paper - the existing members of Yankees met tonight and commit to aggressively recruit during next 8 days. Should we come up short we need some player to back fill for a couple weeks. I each team could assign 1 player to Yankees for a game or two it would provide TIME to complete the roster. We all believe that more players will come.

The Yankees have 5 players on paper. We are holding team meeting Friday for the 5 and hope to recruit 4 + by Sunday 23 April. Please pass the word and help recruit some players for our new team. 

Orioles defeat Pirates, Cubs and Braves play to 9 - 9 tie due to darkness, Nationals overwhelm Red Sox 20- 5 in Havelock 

Also the Red Sox and Nationals start the season in Havelock at 2PM 

Havelock Rec fields are the home field of Red Sox and Nationals 

Registration forms are flowing in but each roster is more than full and there are players who want to sign up, and need a team. The Yankees are equipped with uniforms etc. Pass the word on to friends and family - to get in now before season starts and play 18 games.

A new and 7th team will compose the ECABL for 2017. The executive committee of the ECABL decided to go forward and establish a 7th team (Yankees). All new players will be assigned to the  Yankees.  A manger for the new team has not been identified .

As posted several times over the past several months players must pay league fees $180.00 by 20 March TODAY.  

Due to recent rainfall the field is unplayable for baseball activities.

The Red Sox held a team organizational meeting to get things in order for the 2017 season.

The Red Sox manager is Theius Dalton, with Dwain Johnson as his bench coach and I will, in addition to league duties, serve the Red Sox as player, recruiter and oversee admin duties, The roster has 13 names with only 2 paying full dues. Nothing is confirmed until all fees are paid.

Rob Fulton has agreed to terms with the Red Sox for the 2017 season Rob is 42 and has college level experience.

Red Sox sign slick fielding Curtis Hall (34) from Arkansas.  

the league needs help raising funds for field improvements, extra uniforms and other expansion items. If any one knows someone i.e. wife, girl friend cousin any body  interested in coordinating these efforts should come forth. Should be comfortable with digital media. Volunteer position.

The ECABL Cubs conducted baseball workouts today in preparation of the 2017 season. Drills were conducted at SportsNation 2108 Old Cherry Point Rd, NB 9 players reported all in  good shape and pounding the pitches.

While not official yet, city officals gave strong support for Kafer Park to be new home field for ECABL. There is some work to be done and we will need to put together a working party of league members - to make field ready for opening day 9 April is very acheivable.

The ECABL leadrship all agree that each player must provide his/her own bat(s). All players should have at least 2 bats in the event on breaks mid game. Players must get consent to use another team mates bat.  "You break it You own It" Start shopping for wood bats now. 

This is my final note for 2016, your commissioner is off to the United Kingtom for Christmas season returning 2 January 2017.  Thank you all for very a successful 1st season.

The 2016 ECABL baseball season is officially over- the books are closed. Any player with outstanding debt must be paid in full inorder to play in 2017.  All fees for 2017 are due in full 4 April  2017.

ECABL will conduct on a date to be determined in February 2017 a day for new players to register , a draft (tryout) and clinic skills batting fielding etc.  The clinic will be done by a former player of some repute.   Stay tuned for date

Opening day for 2017 is Sunday April 9th fees due 4 April. For returning players assuming uniform is in good condition $180.00 for league fees. For new players $250.00

Please confer with managers for payment schedule and or installment plan.

 All new players to league will be assigned to draft pool and later assigned to a specific team  unless joining the league as part of a complete new team.

All players are encouraged to recommend potential sponsors to help us to expand the league, buy equipment and cover unexpected expenses. 

The 2016 ECABL Orioles "League Champions"  have a piece posted on the MSBL website that is viewed by MSBL teams nation wide. 

If every player recruited ONE (1) new player we could have 6 teams in 2017 easy.

The Orioles under new manager Lewis Price pulled the right strings and led his Orioles passed the heavily favored Pirates  14 to 2 in 9 innings.  Strong pitching and flawless defense was the difference.  Congratulations to Orioles. 

ECABL will host 1st annual Blue/Grey baseball tournament 1st weekend in April 2017. A MSBL affiliate from Rhode Island/Massachusetts will travel to New Bern for 3 games. Details to follow.  

Players have asked if some one uses and breaks someone else bat what happens? Each player should have his/her own bat .If  a player breaks a bat he/she has a an obligation to make whole the person lending the bat. In short , each player should have at least 2 bats, helmet, spikes , a glove.

In the opener Pirates were paced by the strong pitching of Jason Mellendez 8 Innings and Alex Vizaccondo  along with offense o led by Austin King home Run to lead off the game

The Cubs fell to Braves in an  8 inning pitching effort of manager/pitcher Doug Amerson. The Cubs in turn showed a much improved defense and were in the game to the last out.  Dan Rice shouldered the majority of the pitching effort as the Cubs had 16 players in the batting line up. Game called after 8 innings due to darkness.  

The newly formed Orioles where speed and youth was too much for the veteran Cubs . Look for a balancing of the league age wise for the 2nd half of the season.

Doug Amerson (59) pitched his speedy Braves to a convincing win  Sunday at Creek Side .

Pirates rode the strong pitching performance of Linster Stryhorn  who also helped his cause with a towering 2 run homer to left.

We (ECABL) have been invited  by an MSBL league in Raleigh to play in a tournament of peers July 4th weekend   I will accept invitation if there is enough interest to field a team.

The score is misleading as the early innings saw a scramble for players but aftr the 2nd inning Dan Rice pitched a masterfully but Cub offense could not get going.  

Playoffs will tell the ultimate story 

Field Conditions at Creek Side remain unplayable. Next game is Wednesday 8 Jun Cubs v Pirates.  630PM CreekSide 

The Orioles officially joined the ECABL with a compliment of player substitutes from other teams.

There were some very impessive defensive players by the newly form Orioles such a bang bang put out at home by rifle shot home by the shortstop 

Just notified that the field at West Craven is on.  Cubs v Orioles  230   and  Pirates  vs Braves at 6PM

Because West Craven drains well Creekside games may be moved West Craven will confirm by noon Sunday.

We are working with Craven county Recreation Dept to get the games in this weekend which might require playing at West Craven Sunday.  County officials will advise by 530 PM today Saturday 4 June 

As of 4PM Friday Creek side Park is in good condition for play.

The next 48 hours are critical NO RAIN !!!

Cubs vs Pirates at 230         followed by Braves Orioles  6 PM

League officials and Craven county Recreation ground crews will meet at 4PM to determine if the field at Creek side will be playable for Sunday.

Our 4th Team " The Orioles will have initial team meeting to take account of how many will show up to get uniforms and general information session. We have invited 14 so please get the word out to friends and relatives who would like to play.  We have 13 games left on the schedule.

There will be no 6 week break mid season as previously planned.  We will not have a break in July and August but instead play through to September and begin playoffs mid September
